Questions about the directory and your next step
These answers focus on action: how to research a firm, organize the file, and recognize questions that require advice under local law.
Using the directory
Does a listing mean the firm is recommended?
No. A listing is a research starting point, not an endorsement, ranking, or assessment of legal skill.
Why does the site show cities with different numbers of firms?
The location strategy follows current listing density. Counts can change as the mother directory updates, and a higher count does not mean higher quality.
Can a firm in another city help me?
Possibly. Confirm the lawyer’s license, service area, jurisdiction, and ability to handle the matter. An office address alone does not answer those questions.
How do I verify a lawyer?
Use the attorney licensing authority for the relevant state. Ask which individual lawyer would supervise the matter and verify that person, not only the firm name.
Preparing the file
What should I preserve first?
Keep reliable incident records, photographs, messages, medical instructions, bills, insurance correspondence, and wage or leave records. Preserve originals and create a dated index.
Do I need every medical record before calling a lawyer?
No. A provider list and request log can show what exists and what is missing. Do not postpone time-sensitive advice just to make the file perfect.
What should I record when an insurer contacts me?
Record the date, caller, company, party represented, claim number, exact request, response, and documents sent. Keep original letters and emails.
Deadlines, fees, and decisions
Can this site calculate my filing deadline?
No. Jurisdiction, claim type, parties, dates, and special notice procedures can change the answer. Ask a qualified local lawyer promptly.
What should I ask about a contingency fee?
Ask how the fee is calculated, whether it changes by stage, how expenses are handled, what happens if there is no recovery, and how other obligations affect the closing accounting.
Does contacting a listed firm create an attorney-client relationship?
Not by itself. A firm must complete its intake and conflict process and agree to the representation. Do not assume a relationship exists without confirmation.
